Academic Programs

Creating and managing academic programs and structure

We use "Academic programs" to collectively describe the various (official) credentials a student can earn at Indiana University. These include:

  • Degrees and majors and their subcomponents, such as tracks, concentrations, and specializations
  • Certificates
  • Minors

Proposals to create and change academic programs are subject to multiple levels of review. The level of review will depend on the proposal type and will range from approval of the Office of Undergraduate Curriculum, Policy, and Records all the way to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Since the approval processes for creating and changing academic structure—schools, departments, centers, institutes, and structural programs—is similar to that of academic programs, we also include in this section information about these.
