Transfer Students - 1st Appointment Checklist

To support new transfer students in their academic transition to the College and IU, do outreach to invite them to meet with you for a first appointment before Continuing Student Registration to allow time for an unrushed discussion.

Prepare for the appointment:

Check for missing AP/IB/Transfer Credit
Review for extended-x applicability (Intercampus Transfers)
Remind the student to apply for special credit if they are in a validating course once grades have been submitted (foreign language)
Confirm planned credentials (majors/minors/certificates)
Review remaining degree requirements
Discuss planned time-to-degree

Compare what is on the student’s transcript against the following:

Review the student's NSO advising appointment note in AdRx to see what the student reported to the advisor about expected AP/IB/Transfer credit against what is showing on the transcript.
Check the Test section in the “Additional Info” page in AdRx and/or the View Test Credit area in SIS (linked in the Academics 2 page).
Look to see if any courses on the student’s high school transcript are marked AP or IB.

If there are any discrepancies, the student may need to have the program directly send scores or transcripts to IU Admissions to get processed.

In the AAR, expand the All Courses Taken area (under the College of Arts and Sciences: Miscellaneous Course Information tab). Click on “Course” (in grey font) to alphabetize the order.

For IU courses that have the exact same course number and title, review to see if applying extended-x would be beneficial to the student.
